When to renew

We advise renewing at least 30 days before the expiry date. Our system sends automatic email reminders, but ultimate responsibility for renewal rests with the registrant.

The one-year use rule

The registrant agrees that if the .al domain is not put into use within one year from registration or renewal, it may be released and another individual may register and use it. This is specific to .al and does not exist for most international extensions.

What happens on expiry

• Your website and email stop working immediately after expiry.
• The domain enters a period where recovery may still be possible.
• After that period the name is released and anyone may register it.

The safest way to avoid this is multi-year renewal — up to 10 years at once.
